ANNUAL PROGRAM (AGES 6 - 16) RECITAL FAQS

Is a costume mandatory for performing in the recital?

Yes, costumes are mandatory if you are to be performing in the recital.

Why does my child need a costume?

Performance is a vital component of dance as an art form. Costumes help to establish a character, convey the mood of the dance, tell a story and enhance the stage. Costumes, hair, make-up, lighting and stage design are all visual elements that enhance the way a spectator interprets dance as a performing art.

Can we opt out of performing in the recital?

Participation in recital is not mandatory, however, the recital performance is a celebration and demonstration of all the hard work dancers put into their training throughout the entire year.  Term 3 focuses on teaching performance skills, which includes choreography, confidence, creative thinking, collaboration, artistry and technique. Dancers who attend classes but will not participate in the final show may not receive the full benefit of the class format.  Recital performances provide an opportunity for your dancer to be celebrated by family and friends.

What if I buy a costume and my child doesn’t want to perform?

Costumes fees are non-refundable.  Each costume will be custom made to your dancer and therefore, we will not be able to return the costume to the costume maker or get a refund for it. If your dancer changes their mind about performing, they will still receive their costume.

What happens on recital day?

A detailed outline and checklist will be sent to all dancers in the weeks leading up to recital.

Can the schedule be changed if my children are in two separate shows?

No, the cast list will not be changed.  We have done our very best to keep multiple dance classes and siblings performing in the same show, however, due to the size of our student body, it is logistically impossible to have all families attend one recital.  Discounted tickets will be available to families who will be attending multiple shows.

Will I be able to video the performance?

No, you will not be able to film the performance.  We will have a professional videographer and photographer capturing the performance who will be set up in a place that will not disrupt the dancers. Cameras and or phones in a theatre are disruptive and distracting to the dancers on stage.

What can I bring for my dancer after the show to celebrate them?

Performers typically get flowers after a performance. Flowers are a way of showing support and honouring your dancer’s performance. This is optional, but a very nice gesture that adds to a dancer’s experience!  FLOWERS WILL BE SOLD on site this year.

What do I do with my dancer’s costume after the recital is over?

Many costumes can be repurposed and reused. Depending on the costume, some can be worn as regular clothing/attire, some can be worn to dance class again as a dance uniform, and some can be used as Halloween costumes or dress up/play. Dancers generally keep their costumes for years to come as they bring wonderful memories.

How do I buy tickets?
Tickets are sold online only.  There will be no ticket sales in person.  CLICK HERE TO BUY YOUR TICKETS.

Can you put tickets aside for me and my family?

We are reserving two tickets per family until May 5 in order to ensure all dancers have at least two people in attendance. After that, all unsold tickets will be released. We are not holding tickets beyond May 5.

Do I need a print out of my ticket or is showing the ticket on my phone good enough?

Tickets on your phone are accepted. Each person watching the show must have their own digital ticket that will be scanned upon entry.

Is my child allowed to watch the recital if they are performing in only one number?

No. Dancers must stay backstage during the duration of the recital.  This is to prevent distractions such as entering and exiting the theatre and to keep backstage running smoothly.  We will also not be able to manage dancers entering and exiting backstage during the show.

Will tickets be sold on the day of the show in case I want to buy more?

No. All tickets must be purchased in advance.

Are tickets assigned seating?
No. There are 250 seats per performance and seating is on a first come-first serve basis.

If dancers would like to attend a show they are not performing in, do they have to buy a ticket?

Yes. All audience members over the age of 2 must purchase a ticket to watch the show.  Kids 2 years and old do not need a ticket but will be required to sit on a lap.

How many tickets can I buy?

Ticket sales will be limited to 2 tickets per family until May 5, 2023 to ensure all dancers have at least 2 family members in attendance. After May 5, ticket sales will be open to the public.

Can my child sit on lap and do I have to buy a ticket for them?

Children 2 years old and younger do not require a ticket and can sit on the parent's lap. Children ages 3 and up will require a ticket and are not allowed to sit on the parent's lap. These are theatre guidelines that we must adhere to.

BACKSTAGE and DRESSING ROOM POLICIES

Will there be someone to check my child's costume before they go onstage to make sure all pieces are there and being worn properly, or is this my responsibility?

Yes. This is the job of the teachers.

Am I allowed in the backstage holding area?

No. The backstage area is not large enough to hold dancers, teachers, assistants and parents. Parents must drop off their dancer in the care of their instructor at the call time.  There will be a stage door where dancers will be dropped off at.

If my dancer is in multiple performances, will there be a place for them to change into their next costume?

Yes. The backstage area is equipped with washrooms and change rooms will be open for dancers who need to change. There will be instructors and volunteers to assist with this.

Will there be someone to touch up my child's hair and make up in between dance numbers?

Yes. This the teacher's responsibility.

Is my child allowed to go to the washroom alone?

No. All students will be escorted to restrooms by a teacher or a CDC staff member.

Is my child allowed to leave the dressing room alone?

No. There will be a formal dismissal process after the show from the dressing rooms to the parent's care.

Where do I pick up my child after the recital?

After each performance is complete, children will exit from the stage door located in the theatre lobby. There will be a formal dismissal process to ensure a safe dismissal with their parents/guardians. We ask parents not to take their children off the stage.

Are food and drinks allowed backstage?

Yes, but only bottled water. Students may bring nut-free snacks only if necessary.
