DANCE DESCRIPTIONS


LIL MOVERS - PARENT AND TOT

This course is designed for tiny dancers that are currently 1.5 – 3 years old. This class gives children the opportunity to interact with other dancers their age, and begin to take direction from a teacher. Dance and movement is taught through creative play, and songs. All classes are taught by one instructor and an assistant. 


INTRO TO DANCE

This course is designed for tiny dancers that are currently 1.5-2.5 years old. This class gives young children the opportunity to interact with other dancers their age, and begin to take direction from a teacher. Dance and movement is taught through creative play, and songs. All classes are taught by one instructor and their assistant. 
PRIMARY BALLET
This course is designed for young dancers that are currently 4-5 years old. Ballet class etiquette and terminology is emphasized. Classes incorporate stretching, basic arm and feet positions, while exploring the concept of parallel versus turn out. The syllabus will include independent movements such as balance, hopping, skipping, jumping, and gallops. All classes are taught by one instructor and their assistant.

JAZZ
Jazz dance is a variety of techniques influenced by many dance forms and is one of the most popular and essential styles. This class focuses on progression, coordination, isolation, technique, and performance. It is high in energy and a lot of fun!

HIP HOP AND BREAK DANCE

Hip Hop dance and Break Dance are street dances that have evolved along with Hip Hop culture. Choreography is fun, lively and challenging. Hip Hop music is set to a strong, urban beat.  This style builds stamina, with an emphasis on body isolations, co-ordination, freestyle movement, rhythm, and confidence.


CONTEMPORARY
This versatile dance form focuses on emotional expression and draws itself from modern dance and ballet techniques with a newer philosophy on movement. Many would recognize this dance style from the hit TV Show, So You Think You Can Dance. This class is comprised of center and barre work with an emphasis on clean technique and alignment.  Music selections span over various eras and styles.
RAD BALLET
The Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) is an international leading syllabus of classical ballet . Students will work on ballet terminology, history and movement. Dancers who attend these classes must have previous ballet experience and are given the opportunity to move through a primary level and then into eight graded levels. Opportunity for examination is offered for ages 6-18 years. www.radcanada.org.
TAP

Tap dance is a rhythmic style of dance combined with Jazz technique.  The tap shoes are used as percussive instruments to create sounds while hitting the floor.  The class emphasis is on musicality, rhythm, coordination, style and technique.


POINTE
Pointe is a form of Ballet whereby female dancers dance on pointe shoes. The hard pointe shoe allows dancers to dance on their toes. This type of dance requires years of training and strengthening of the ankle joints and muscles so that dancers can dance safely and with sound technique.



SPECIAL WORKSHOPS
Special workshops give young dancers the opportunity to immerse themselves in unique dance genres and learn something new and exciting. Workshops include cultural dances such as Afro-Fusion and Bollywood, as well as seasonal workshops like Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’ dance.
